Hi everyone -- first off the lack of posts is killing me. I have been unavoidably detained with my final two weeks of graduate school -- they really piled it on. Also I would like to give a shout out to the NTRA who is now following me on Twitter -- awesome and keep up your good work for the sport. Okay now that we know the post positions which I will focus in another edition, lets dig deep into the works of the 20 horses who will be running for the 136th blanket of roses. From past experience I do like to see a blowout here in the final prep before the big dance.
- Lookin At Lucky (Monday 4/26 Muddy 5f 1:00.4 Breezing 1/26) Give no reason not to like -- understandably the favorite
- Ice Box (Friday 4/23 Sloppy 4f :46.2 1/28) Showed some speed at the end which is what he'll need to do in the Derby -- deep closer (interesting)
- Noble's Promise (Monday 4/26 Muddy 4f :48.4 7/45) Last work is what got him in as trainer hinged decision on this work -- he's in despite recovering from a lung ailment.4 - Super Saver (Saturday 4/24 Sloppy 4f :48.4 6/26) Local knowledge both with horse and jock. Close to the rail for Bo"rail"
- Line of David (Monday 4/26 Muddy 6f 1:15 3/3) Disliked the slop - tough stretch run -- could be early speed
- Stately Victor (Friday 4/23 CD Trackside Training Center Sloppy 5f 1:00.3 1/13) Did not prep at CD solid effort here
- American Lion (Monday 4/26 Muddy 5f 1:02.3 11/26) Been very smooth in the mornings, very uninspiring final work
- Dean's Kitten (Friday 4/23 Trackside Training Center Sloppy 5f 1:01.1 7/13) Turf Specialist -- why is he running here? Poor Setzuko.
- Make Music For Me (Sunday 4/25 Good 5f 1:02.2 11/20) Lackluster works -- last to get in to Derby on earnings
- Paddy O'Prado (Friday 4/23 Sloppy 5f :58.2 1/21) This is a blowout I look for in a prep.He galloped out 6f in 1:11.06 and 7/8s in 1:25.62 on a sloppy track -- could be huge value!!!!
- Devil May Care (Saturday 4/24 Sloppy 5f 1:00.1 2/20) Welcome Miss! Wore blinker (her hat essentially) and had an impressive final tune up with a strong gallop out. Blinkers to the rescue??
- Conveyance (Tuesday 4/27 Muddy 5f :59.1 1/9) Another blowout and in the mud! Reminiscent of Hard Spun to me.
- Jackson Bend (Thursday 4/22 Fast 5f 1:00 1/20) Showed signs of drifting and likes confrontation albeit with his rider -- hmmm
- Mission Impazable ( Saturday 4/24 Sloppy 5f 1:00.1 2/20) Looked solid all week with high energy -- is he laying in the weeds before his coming out party?
- Discreetly Mine (Satruday 4/24 Sloppy 5f 1:00.2 4/20) Solid effort here but the horse seems to be lacking in other areas
- Awesome Act (Tuesday 4/27 Muddy 4f :48.1 2/24) Had trouble pacing stablemate in tune up. Could be over rated but will get some looks.
- Dublin (Sunday 4/25 Muddy 5f 1:02.4 13/20) Fought rider throughout prep - choppy stride.
- Backtalk (Sunday 4/25 KEENELAND Fast 5f 1:01.3 5/12) Simply not impressed
- Homeboykris (Wednesday 4/28 Good 4f :48.2 2/17) Nonchalant works and winless as a 3 YO -- why are you here again -- Poor Setzuko.
- Sidney's Candy (Saturday 4/24 Sloppy 6f 1:11.3 1/3) Prepped of stablemate which is not the normal place for this colt. Sign he won't take the lead like prior races with all this speed? Did not have a gallop out after prep.
Feeling like the NFL Network going over the combine -- Wonderlic anyone? Some notable blowouts which piqued my interest a bit. Next step Pedigrees which then will lead up to the final analysis and selection. It will be a busy evening and Friday for me.
See you in the Winner's Circle. Riders Up!
